For the past few months, I have gotten a football sked book from “betus.com” – one I do find useful, too. In it, there are tons of ads from handicappers promoting their services. I usually laugh at most of them, but not when one offers a free “play of the year.”

On page 27 of this book in the very bottom part of the page, is an ad from “Mksports.com” promoting its “AFC Game of the Year.” We are told it is FREE to all callers. There was also a number for their free pick phone, 1-800-487-0601 – so I called it.

I was told how it was their AFC GOY and it was FREE to all callers and it is “our way of saying thank you for calling.” I was told Denver/New England was HUGE and if it didn’t “hit” the rest of the NFL would be “on me” (“me” being Mksports.com). Once again I was told, “our AFC Game of the Year is Free, Free, Free to all callers” and that this play is 6-1 the last 7 years. All I had to do was call their office at 1-800-620-1904. I was also given a free pick and was told (and kep in mind I called Monday) to play Boston in the NBA (and that would be realllly tough to do – since the Celtics last played on Saturday, 11/1 and don’t play again until Wednesday, 11/5 – and the line for the 11/5 game wasn’t out Monday afternoon – so I have NO CLUE what they really mean here). I will add that at NO point in time was the voice on this line a shrieking “Stu Feiner’esque” squeal – but rather a normal tone of voice and delivery – they deserve kudos for this – for not many are like this.

I called at 1:26P (PST – all times are this since I live in CA). For one of the few times since I have done this, the woman answering the phone did NOT say “Sports” but rather “MK Sports.” I will admit this did impress me since it happens so infrequently (I think Jim Feist and “Doc’s” are the only other 2 to answer with the name of the service – and NOT “Sports”). She asked me for my name and number and told me someone will call me back soon (I could hear phones ringing and people talking in the background, too). So, I hung up and waited for the call.

Thirty (30) minutes later I got tired of waiting for the call and called them back. I told them who I was (or rather the name I gave them) and told them I was waiting to be called back. The woman said someone would call me be ASAP. Sure enough, about 10-15 seconds later – the phone rang.

The guy on the other end said his name was “Eddie Burke.” He then said, “What can I do for you today?” I told him I saw their ad in the “betus.com” schedule book and after calling their free pick phone I know tonite is their AFC GOY and it is free to call callers.

(Eddie then said the words I LOVE to hear from services) Eddie said the game was nothing more than a “computer game” put out on their 900-number for people who called. Eddie then asked me how much I normally bet on a game. I told him it depends if I ‘like it or love it.” Eddie asked me on average – and I told him a “few hundred” (not the exact amount – but he doesn’t need to know if it is more or less).

Eddie then told me their system is for every $1,000 I win – I pay them $250. Once I make $1,000 the cycle starts over again. He said I would work with him – and he manages the office. He said they might only give out about 3-5 games week – and sometimes only 1 play per week. He said they have “discipline” and don’t give out a game just because it is on TV. He said a losing streak is not very likely because they don’t bet a lot of games.

He said they work thru Western Union (as far as processing payments – I guess). I asked how many games they play in an average NFL season – and he said about 60.

He said they are documented in “Insider Magazine” (has anyone ever heard of that – and if so – how “reputable” is it – I think I know – but want to hear from someone else).

I then asked him what their winning percentage is – say over the last 3 years – or so. Eddie told me:

65.6% in College Football
67% in the NFL
Almost 75% in College Hoops

(And as we ALL should know – ANYTIME a service tells you they hit around 2/3 of their games – that tells you all you need to know about their service – and to claim 75% is even more ludicrous).

About the latter, he added how “lots of games look good but I don’t want to say they are fixed” (and whenever someone says this – they are trying to tell you a game is “fixed” without actually saying it). He added they work with Vegas an New York affiliates, especially on “Hold ‘em” games. I asked what that meant. Eddie told me a “Hold ‘em” game is one where the casino takes a lot of action on 1 side, but they don’t “lay it off” – they keep taking bets on the games.” Eddie told me that in Vegas the “Riviera Hotel” is where these “Hold ‘em” games take place (ok – time for the laugh here at this since we know how much Vegas books suck – and I believe the Riviera is now a “Leroy’s” property – meaning their lines are tied into a lot of other “Leroy’s” hotels in the area and when one side gets “hit” the line moves a lot – and in Vegas – moving a line takes a LOT less money than it used to).

Eddie said MK Sports has been around for over 20 years. Eddie told me he is 55 and he retired as a stockbroker and only works for MK during Basketball and Football Season – and takes time off during baseball.

I asked Eddie one more time about the AFC GOY and was the only way to get it by signing up for their service and paying the $250. (Once again Eddie gave me a batting practice fastball) Eddie then said once again how the game was a computer generated one and for small players only. It was nothing more than a “Statistical Analysis of the game” He added it is something to get people to call their $20 a call line and make MK lots of money (How nice to hear someone be honest about this – although if he knew who he was talking to I sense he never would have said what he did – for now it is out in the open for all to see – and see what kind of service they are!). Eddie said the game was “not for someone like me” who bets a lot more than most of their callers.

Eddie then asked me to get a piece of paper and a pen and draw a line down the center. On the left side, he told me to put $250 – and on the right side, $1,000. he said the $250 was his commission and the $1,000 was what I would win before I had to pay him $250 (after the initial $250 I had to pay to start getting picks). He said, “After the 1st round – you are using the book’s money to re-up with us.” He said it would it would take “A week to 10 days” to make my $1,000 and once I made some money, I would move my bets up and bet more money on each game. Once my bankroll gets built up, he said, I would want to bet a “nickel” on the games because it costs them money to get their information (meaning the more I bet on their games – the faster I would get to $1,000 – and their $250 payment).

I asked Eddie if I would be working with him – and he would tell me how much to bet on each game. Eddie said that would be the case.

Eddie then asked me how I wanted to pay for the $250 – Western Union or Credit Card. I chose WU (because this way I could hang up and never have to deal with him again). He told me to go to a WU location. I was to get a “Regular Form,” send the $250 to “Mardy Kidd.” I was told to send it to “Bayonne, NJ, 07002” and once I did to call Eddie with my 10-digit control number.

I asked Eddie if there was a number I would call him at every day to get the picks. Eddie told me to call the 800-number I called at the start of things (800-620-1904) and that I would call him at 6:45P (I assume EST) on Weekdays and 11:45A on Weekends.

I then told Eddie I was going to the WU place and would call him back later (yeah – when HELL freezes over). I then hung up and took the phone off the hook so he couldn’t call back.

Now – I do have to give them credit for having the way they treated me. Yes – it was like most services do – but Eddie never talked 10,000 miles a minute nor did he ever talk at a level above a normal tone of voice. Of all of the “less than desirable” services I have busted over the years – these guys were one of the better ones as far as treating me. I felt I was being talked to – not yelled at. I do commend them here. But after all I went thru with them – they are not something I would ever give Monopoly money to.

One final note – there is ONE person here who knows who my next victim will be – as well as when I am going to do it. I know this person will stay “Hush-hush” which is why I told him. I won’t say when I am going to do it – for I don’t want any services to be tipped off – but let’s just say BEFORE thanksgiving. I sense this one might be a classic!

I, actually, like when they talk 10,000 words a minute, and answer the phone "sports". There is lots of humor with these guys and their outrageous claims
